Early American life was centered on the Eastern Seaboard with Virginia as a central point of interest for many. A former English colony, Virginians' lifestyles included large estates with well appointed homes, springhouses, grapes arbors for a winery, cows for a creamery, crops, slaves quarters, and more. Many of our earliest presidents lived on these self-sustainable estates. Thanks to historical preservation societies many of these are restored and open to the public today.

Students of Early American history can learn a great deal about life in the early colonies and post Revolutionary War by touring presidential estates. The driving distance between estates is several hours at the most – making it a convenient itinerary for a bus tour.
